Important Message from Dr. Chivalette - (Friday, October 2, 2015)

Calvary Lutheran School

Important Message from Dr. Chivalette

Friday, October 2, 2015

Dear Calvary Lutheran School Families and Friends,

Greetings, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The school year is moving quickly as we rapidly approach the end of our first quarter, on October 23rd.  Students and teachers are getting to know each other and there is a wonderful sense of calm settling over our PS-8th grade campus.

As most are aware, the school is preparing for its mid-term accreditation visit by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Lutheran School Association (NLSA) set for November 16 and 17.  The mid-term visit is designed to ensure that CLS is actively addressing previously identified areas from our 2012 visit.

At present, there is so much happening at CLS with our 7th and 8th grade students preparing to leave for their incredible outdoor education experience October 6-9.  Later in the month of October, all parents will be required to attend our parent/teacher conferences scheduled for October 29th and 30th.  Your child's classroom teacher will provide times for you to select based upon availability.  First quarter report cards will be handed out during the parent conferences.  Our faculty will also work to accommodate families with multiple students in different grades.

Also worth noting is the unveiling of our new school logo which will be placed on t-shirts, polos, and hoodie sweatshirts. Shirt samples will be shown at the next Calvary Family Association (CFA) meeting on Monday, October 13th.  Following that date we will be sending out order forms and pricing for t-shirts, polo shirts, and hoodie sweatshirts to all current families.  Please note that students may continue to follow our previously established dress code if they wish to do so.

On a separate note, below you will find an attachment with a brief parent survey consisting of eight (8) questions for our upcoming accreditation visit.  I would ask that you complete the survey and return it via e-mail to Mrs. Nancy Schibler schoolsecretary@calvaryslz.org  no later than Monday, October 13th.  Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Is your child not feeling well?
 Sick Child

If you feel your child is sick or might be sick, we ask you to please keep them at home.

If your child's temperature is 99.6 degrees or higher, it is considered a low-grade temperature. Please keep your child at home as whatever your child has is now considered contagious.

A child must be fever free (no fever) and not vomiting, WITHOUT any medications  (Acetaminophen/ Tylenol, Ibuprofen/Motrin) in their system for at least 24 hours before they can return to school.

If your child suddenly comes down with the following symptoms:  fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, cough, fatigue, rash, nausea or vomiting - we encourage you to contact your local physician and discuss your child's symptoms.

Do not forget to let your school secretary know that your child will not be in school. If you would like to pick up any homework after school, please let the secretary know at that time.

YOUR CHILD AND MEDICINE

   bronze-medicine-symbol.jpg  pharmacy2.jpg

Students are not allowed to "self-medicate" themselves while at school.  All meds must go to the school office and must have a Medication Form filled out in full (see below).

Prescription medications will ONLY be given with written permission from the prescribing physician or with the prescription label on the medication container.  WRITTEN permission is needed from parent/guardian for OVER-THE-COUNTER DRUGS.  You may wish to ask your doctor to order medication divided into 2 bottles, each with a prescription label, so that you can keep one at school and one at home.

Please fill out a "Medication Form" for each and every medicine that is to be given to you child. Click here to download this form

Medication that needs to be stored in the refrigerator will be stored in the school office refrigerator.

"Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end.
Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart.
Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.
Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared.
Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good.
How I long for your precepts!
In your righteousness preserve my life.

Remembering 9/11

Please join us at Calvary Lutheran in remembering those whose lives were taken and affected on 09/11.
As we take time to reflect on the 14th Anniversary of a day none of us will ever forget, let us come together to remember and express our gratitude to those who demonstrated what it is to be a hero, and to pledge ourselves to live in honor of their bravery.  Let us all continue to pray daily for our nation, the United States of America.

Anyone need a Hospital Bed?

If you are unable to view this email, please click here.

Custom ImageWe bought an air mattress for my mom when she went on hospice.  It was only used for three weeks or so and is nearly new.  It is the mattress part (includes pump) and not the bed frame.  It is ideal for bed-ridden folks as it is designed to help resist bed-sores from forming.  We thought maybe someone in the congregation or even the school who might be in need of one, a shut-in or someone else who might be in need.  If there is anyone who you can think of that might be able to use it, we would gladly donate it to them.  They can be quite expensive and in my mom's case, Medicare wouldn't pay for one – so maybe there is an elderly person who could use it.  If you can think of anyone, just let us know, we can deliver it too if needed. Thanks,
Steven Ellis

Please contact Karla in the office for Steven's contact information if you or someone you know could use this.
How great of them to think of others who might be in need.
