Friends in Christ, Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. (Psalm 115:1) How often do we desire to share in God's glory? We pray for great things for our church, and we claim this is a holy desire, but do we desire this only for God's glory? If so, why pray so fervently for our church? Do we want God's church to be great, or do we want our church to be great? It's hard to separate these two desires, isn't it? We need the prayer which opens Psalm 115. Not to me, O Yahweh, not to me! Take me out of the center of my desires. Give me satisfaction in whatever role I play in service to you. Would I rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than spend time anywhere else? Let my heart say, "Yes!" Let this be our prayer together. As we follow Jesus together, we can pray for Calvary (and we should). Let's pray that whatever the future holds for Calvary, God's name would be glorified and ours would not. Here for you, Matt Behrens, Pastor | |
