Friends in Christ, Last week I got to share some "words of wisdom" with the 5th graders who just completed their education at Lea's Christian School. I don't have much wisdom, but I was able to share some thoughts from Proverbs. I asked those students to recognize this time not as the end of something, but as a transition toward something. I wonder if there's some application for us as a church? I don't believe our future looks like our past. The culture around us has changed. The gifting of our Calvary community has changed. The gospel is unchanging, but there's no denying that some seasons are in the past. Yet, maybe this is not only an end, but a transition. This season for Calvary may be an end in some regards, but in Christ this is a transition toward new things. I encouraged those fifth graders not to get lost in the transitions. That's good advice for us too. Don't get lost in the transitions. Know the difference between what is primary and what is secondary. Allow a grieving where appropriate, but also a letting go. We do not cling to comfort, but only to the cross of Christ. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Here for you, Matt Behrens, Pastor | |
