Be Green
& Help Calvary Earn a Little Green
Greetings!

Calvary has partnered with C & T Recycling and will be sponsoring a recycling event located in Calvary's back parking lot on Saturday, Aug. 17th from 9am - 4pm.

Bring your old electronics* or documents* that need to be shredded to help keep the planet green, and help Calvary earn a little money for our programs. (*Some items may have a small fee to recycle and shredding is $8.00 per banker box).

This event coincides with School Beautification so come and drop off your recyclables and stay awhile and help with the School Beautification and/or eWaste. Get a head start on your Parent Participation hours. The more, the merrier!

School Beautification
Saturday, Aug. 9am - noon

Dear Doug,

It's that time of year to spruce up the school and all we need are happy hearts and helping hands.  Come down to Calvary at 9am with some cleaning supplies and you can lend a hand wherever you would like.  Many parents like to help in their child's classroom.

We'll have some donuts and coffee, so bring your family and friends--the more, the merrier!  Start working off those PPP hours early and have some fun and fellowship while you're doing it.

Here are some ideas of cleaning items to bring:

Clorox Wipes, paper towels, rags, dusters, paint brushes, Windex (or other surface cleaners), broom (to sweep or knock down cobwebs), wood cleaner/polish, dry erase board cleaner/conditioner, or anything else you think we could use.  Call the school office with any questions: 510-278-2598.

Let's get ready for the First Day of School!

Giving Thanks for our New Kindergarten Teacher

We welcome Katie Mellon to the Calvary Family!

Originally from Connecticut, Katie moved to the West Coast to take a break from the long cold winters with feet of snow. After graduating in 2010 from Keene State College in New Hampshire with a degree in Elementary Education and a degree in Music for Elementary teachers, she moved to Boston and worked for three years as an assistant in a 1st and 2nd grade classroom. During her time in Boston, Katie earned her Masters of Education in May 2013 from Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing  in integrating the arts.

Katie enjoys reading, knitting and running. Traveling is a new interest of hers and she hopes to see more and more of the country as her family and friends begin to spread from the East Coast.  She is looking forward to exploring the Bay Area and hopes to adopt a dog soon. She is thrilled and excited about starting her lead teaching career at Calvary!

GraceWorks Will Work!

Calvary has enlisted the help of GraceWorks in its effort to go above and beyond just plain marketing. This company has served over 500 Christian schools, including Redwood Christian, with their marketing and fundraising efforts and has been recognized as a national leader in Christian school marketing.

They will guide Calvary along the path to becoming a healthier, more robust school with their vision and faith-based planning that will result in a 20% increase in enrollment.

A Polling Place to Call Home

We are happy to announce that Calvary is officially a polling location for our community. Not only will this give our neighbors the convenience of voting close to home, but we can use this opportunity to offer them some refreshments and maybe a church postcard or school brochure.    ;)
Preschool Expansion

The Lord has blessed us mightily this year, and preschool is busting at the seams. The seams, or in this case, the wall needs to go! The Preschool Expansion has been an idea that has been in the works for a couple years, and this year it will finally start. Whether the preschool class is linked the Kindergarten class or the youth room, ideas are in the works.

Watch for more details to come!

July E-Chronicle 2013

July E-Chronicle 2013

Quick Links

Dear Friend,

July 2013
John 17: 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that
they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me.
May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know
that you sent me and have loved them even as you have
loved me.

Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Risen Savior,

As I read the news recently of Microsoft's "reorganization" as
a company to more effectively promote its product, I was
struck by their use of the phrase "One Microsoft." They are
using this phrase to indicate that ALL facets of their business should serve the "whole." The
basic message was that every part of Microsoft is going to work together to achieve their
business model.
Interestingly enough, Jesus prayed that the Church may not be divided in the passage above
and a few verses earlier in John 17:11. Jesus knew that a Church united under God is an
awesome and powerful part of God's kingdom.
Calvary is blessed in that, despite our varied aspects, we are not hiding behind the structures
of "corporate walls" or divisions! I have been pleased to witness that every member is
interested in 'growing' Calvary, or more appropriately, allowing God to grow Calvary.
The Elders and I are going to be spearheading an effort to develop, define and declare a vision
statement for Calvary Lutheran Church and School beginning in September. As a
Congregation, a people of God, we will be examining what "ONE CALVARY" looks like!
This will allow us to examine everything we do in fellowship, education, social missions and
Worship in light of the overall mission of Calvary! We are blessed in that God has told us
WHAT we are to be about in the Great Commission. Where Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
The 'HOW' of this is left for us to faithfully carry out. And we KNOW this is possible because
Jesus closes verse 20 with this promise "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of
the age."
I would ask that you begin to petition God daily for how we can best serve God, the Family of
Believers and those who are DYING apart for knowledge of Jesus Christ as One Calvary.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Kelly
