Friends in Christ, It's warming up. In fact, it got rather stuffy in my office today. The difference from other warm days this spring is that there was no breeze. At least, there was no breeze coming in my open windows. I had to go next door to grab a fan. With that little bit of airflow, it's comfortable again. The breeze is refreshing. That's not just a picture of my office. That's a picture of the Holy Spirit. The words in both Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) for Spirit are the same words translated in other contexts as wind. The Spirit is in some ways like the wind. At Pentecost (coming a week from Sunday) the coming of the Spirit coincided with an indoor wind which blew where the disciples were gathered (Acts 2:2). When Jesus spoke with Nicodemus, he compared the invisible Spirit to the invisible wind (John 3:8) – we cannot see it, but we can see its effects. Have you got a fan blowing? Is the air conditioning on where you're at? Are you near an open window? Let the movement of the air around you be a reminder of the movement of the Spirit. Pray with me for a movement of the Holy Spirit among us as God's people. Let it be refreshing to our souls! Come, Holy Spirit! Amen. Here for you, Matt Behrens, Pastor | |
