Friends in Christ, He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! This morning, I was reading from psalms, and I stopped to think about these words from Psalm 27. One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. (Psalm 27:4) David wrote this prayer before the temple was built. The tabernacle was still the place of worship for God's people, but David wants to "inquire in his temple" (By the way, meditate is another way to translate the Hebrew word behind inquire). I think David is pointing to a spiritual temple, not a physical location. He's not asking or planning to move his living quarters into the tabernacle. He wants to live his life in God's presence. This prayer isn't about retreating from the world in order to be with God. This is about living in the personal presence of God at all times while engaging the world around us. It's a great prayer which we can take up for ourselves. I invite you to pray Psalm 27:4 with me this week as we follow Jesus together. Here for you, Matt Behrens, Pastor | |
