Disney's The Little Mermaid - Summer Musical 2017

3Crosses Church presents

In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. The Little Mermaid is also a tale of father and daughters. Though we do not have fins like our heroine, we do have parental figures who, perhaps at times, we feel have stood in the way of our happiness. Many can also sympathize with the widower King Triton who raises his daughter on his own in the best and safest, way he can – even if Ariel is not always capable of recognizing that loving intention.

~ Special Message ~

We hope you are having a wonderful time at the Robert Livermore Center.  CFA tried to do the best they could with what they had throughout the last two years, and especially this year.

CFA would like to thank so many of the parents who continuously helped throughout the year.  To those parents (you know who you are), who helped with the Friday hot lunches, auction, meetings, awards, and so many other things, too many to name, including today's swim party, "THANK YOU VERY MUCH!"

We wish you the best and and many blessings as you go to new schools.  We ask that if you see any of the CFA leaders, teachers, or especially Ms. Nancy, please do not hesitate to stop and say "hi!"  Please, Please, Please. We continue to pray for each and every one of you and expect exciting new things to happen this coming year.

An extra big and special thank you to Rachel Scott, President of CFA, for her continued sacrifice and willingness to do all the running around, making phone calls, picking up food, waters, gatorade, It's-It ice creams, helping with teacher appreciation week, setting up activities - "THANK YOU MS. RACHEL!"  You made Calvary a better place because of your giving.  God Bless you.

To Dr. and Mrs. C - Thank you for your years of service and commitment to the students of Calvary.  Your honesty, morality, guidance and wisdom is very much appreciated.  We continue to pray for you, for journey mercies and exciting new things are about to happen at your new school!

To the Teachers - Thank you so much for your daily commitment to the students.  You interacted with them on an almost daily basis.  You were in your classrooms every day teaching and guiding our children.  We pray that the Lord lead you and guide you to new schools and new exciting adventures.

To every CCS (students and parents) -

Remember to always keep Jesus first in your lives and in the center of everything that you do.  Stay in church, stay in a great strong children's and youth program.  Pray and read God's word daily.  Seek Jesus, not man.  Man will fail you, but God's word will NEVER ever fail you.  Go in peace!  Shalom!  Shalom!

We love you and pray the best for all of you,
Ms. Nancy

Explanation of Closing of Calvary School

If you are unable to view this email, please click here.

Calvary Lutheran Church

Dear Members of Calvary,

Below is a letter that was sent to the school families to help them understand the reasons for our closing of Calvary School...

------------------------------------

May 15, 2017

 Dear Calvary Christian School Parents,

I wanted to write you about the closing of Calvary Christian School.  Let me begin by thanking many on our staff for their professionalism and for going above and beyond in preparing Calvary for our next phase!  They have continued to prepare wonderful educational lessons for the students!  Our recent Stanford Achievement Test scores show that we have been accomplishing the goal of providing excellence in education.  I also wanted to thank the parents that have expressed care, concern, and compassion for the struggle our teachers are going through!

It has been said that "success has a thousand fathers and failure dies an orphan."  The closing of Calvary Christian School is a failure.  A heart-breaking one for all involved.  While some of the seeds of this failure were sown many, many years ago, I wanted to focus on the four areas that caused us to have to close.

The first area was a historical one, we had kept the tuition costs lower than they should have been and were unable to fund a contingency fund.  When we lacked funds, we simply had no more to use.

The second area was a software issue that occurs when transferring numbers from Quickbooks to Excel.  The numbers transfer 'statically' and the formulas get dropped.  While everything looks good, problems can develop.  This 'glitch' caused us to begin the year believing that we had ended up in the black by $60,000 last year.  However, when a physical adding machine tape was finally run, we found that it was $60,000 in the red.  Meanwhile, we had moved forward in our academic agenda of splitting out classes and hiring a new teacher because we thought we had the resources.  When we should have remained the same or looked at combining classes, we went the opposite way.

The third and fourth areas were both involving enrollments.  Lower preschool enrollment than projected caused us to struggle to break even in an area that normally provided a surplus.  Changes in the visa program for our foreign students meant that we did not get the minimum of 10 we had been promised.  Our foreign students paid a premium Tuition fee.  This enrollment shortfall meant a loss of over $100,000.

These four areas meant that we were deep in the red with no contingency fund to draw from and this spelled our end.

To be crystal clear!

There was no mismanagement of funds.

There are no funds unaccounted for or missing.

There was simply not enough tuition coming in to cover our expenses.

The members of Calvary Lutheran Church had borrowed money twice in the past 4 years to keep the school running!  Taking out loans of $240,000 to invest in your students education.  Please remember the members of Calvary who will be continuing to pay for their mission of educating your children for many years to come!

I and the members of Calvary want to thank you for the privilege of your entrusting your most precious gift to us!  I also wanted to invite you to join us on Sunday morning at 9am for Worship. This Sunday, May 21st, Calvary will be acknowledging and thanking our teachers for their faithful service!  You are welcome to join us to thank them as well.

 Yours in Christ,

Rev. Kelly Smith Sr., Pastor

"CLEAN UP AT CALVARY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL"
(This is a great opportunity for those still needing to complete their PPP hours!)

Some of our teachers are planning on working Saturday, May 27, 2017, cleaning out their classroom.

What does this mean?  Teachers need your help boxing up books, personal items, lifting boxes, cleaning, and so much needs to be done before June 1st.  If you are able to help and/or you still need PPP hours, please contact the school secretary at (510) 278-2598, or speak to your student's teacher and she if they will need your help.

There is an additional need for a parent or two to go through the lost and found bin and separate the clothes before the end of the school year.  Please contact the school secretary, Mrs. Nancy, or CFA President, Rachel Scott.

Thank you so much for continuing to support the CCS teachers.

"The Service of Motherhood"
Children are a blessing from the Lord (Ps. 127:3-5). Motherhood is a great honor and privilege, yet it is also synonymous with servanthood. Every day women are called upon to selflessly meet the needs of their families. Whether they are awake at night nursing a baby, spending their time and money on less-than-grateful teenagers, or preparing meals, moms continuously put others before themselves.

Sometimes this constant serving can be exhausting and even discouraging--particularly for a first-time mother. But you can take real encouragement from Jesus. One of the best examples of gracious servanthood is found in John 13:3-16. By kneeling to wash His disciples' feet, the Lord showed that the key to true leadership is humility. And it is humility that leads to eternal reward.

Unless you are willing to stoop down and get your hands dirty, you will miss the real riches of motherhood. By dying to your own desires and pouring your life into someone else, you become like Christ and create a godly legacy that will carry on for generations to come. What greater blessing could one hope for? Of course, the motivation for serving others is not to reap benefits, but when we follow God's plan for our life, that's what happens.

In giving us children, God places us in a position of both leadership and service. He calls us to give up our lives for someone else's sake--to abandon our own desires and put our child's interests first. Yet, according to His perfect design, it is through this selflessness that we can become truly fulfilled.
